By Rosalie Sorrels and U. Utah Phillips
Soapbox Oration is from the album The Long Memory, by Rosalie Sorrels and U. Utah Phillips. “The long memory is the most radical idea in the country. It is the loss of that long memory which deprives our people of that connective flow of thoughts and events that clarify our vision, not of where we're going, but where we want to go. I have had enough of, ‘Oh, that's that '60s stuff’ or ‘We left that behind in the '30s, '40s, '50s. This is the '90s.’ It's not like that. These tidy little decade packages are only a media convenience used to trivialize and dismiss important ideas and events."
