This Week's Labor Video

Tax the Rich

Tax the rich: An animated fairy tale, narrated by Ed Asner, with animation by Mike Konopacki, was written and directed by Fred Glass for the California Federation of Teachers. The story tells how we arrived at this moment of poorly funded public services and widening economic inequality. Things go downhill in a happy and prosperous land after the rich decide they don't want to pay taxes anymore. They tell the people that there is no alternative, but the people aren't so sure.

This Week's Member Tip

Influence Inside and Outside the Workplace

For every employee, both those in the public and private sector, what goes on in the world of politics has a direct connection 2015.02.02member-influenceto the union’s ability to advance and protect the members’ interests.  Legislatures pass and enforce laws that can make it easier or harder for unions to organize, to protect members’ health and safety, to bargain for reasonable health care coverage, and to improve countless other aspects of working life.  What is won at a bargaining table can be taken away with a stroke of a pen by elected officials who are not worker-friendly, or by appointed or elected judges.
